The Beginning of the Year

Lets you and I
just sit a while
and try to wile
away the hours until

the foreshadowed event's
accords
descends upon us
a riled horse

acantering
agallop.

Under sodden blankets
the weighty force,
like a stainless steel
recourse

practicing excision
in Portland Maine.

Will Young in Linen Pants

In your maroon oxford shirt
and linen pants

your represent all that is good in this world, and plain

And you
could've been a Roman legionary
with you handsome
and squared off toes
if you weren't
anglophone.

And your patina
though superficial
is diachronic
and far-reaching.
