Birds in the dark knew
by a spotlight lit, that

an hour is enough.

the flashlight slew
over the deciduous
mayhem of night
in upstate New York.
In springtime! Doors
made of wire screen
between their domain
and the inner one
still alit with larger
bulbs; still alit and
growing brighter
from the aviary, dimmer
from the kitchen.
